Plum & Ashby Seaweed and Samphire

It’s Mothers Day in the UK on March 27th and we have been looking at different products for the number one woman in our life.
These day’s everyone just instantly purchases what they want, there’s no waiting for your birthday so you can be bought it. Bath and body products however are not something we tend to treat ourselves to so they make a great gift.

We’ve been checking out Plum & Ashby’s range, not only because they look effortlessly chic on the side of your bath but because they smell fabulous and feel like a luxurious treat to use.

There is something about apothecary style brown glass bottles. They look expensive and immediately draw your attention.

The hand and body wash and lotion make the perfect duo for a gift. The Seaweed and Samphire scent is reminiscent of seaside holidays but with a fresh slightly citrus undertone. It’s the kind of scent that makes you want to cup your freshly washed hands over you nose and take a deep breath.

The only problem you will have with these products is that your mum will think they look too beautiful to use so you will just have to steal some every time you visit!

The hand and body wash and the hand and body lotion are £19.00 each and available here.

Stila Magnificent metals glitter and glow liquid eye shadow

Glittery makeup became a little bit naff didn’t it? Every Christmas we would see the same old glitter and sparkle packed products when in fact all we really wanted was a nude eye and a matte red lip. I think we just avoided it because it’s almost expected at that time of the year.

Stila however have made shimmer cool again by launching a spring collection packed with glitter. There’s something really lovely about a bit of springtime glitter don’t you think?

The new Magnificent metals glitter and glow liquid eye shadow is A-MAZ-ING.
It applies via a thin paddle as a cool liquid and dries off to a smooth powder, which contains a mega shimmering sparkle.
We only have two shades but the body of the colour is opaque and bold and the shimmer is a mix of silver and gold fine glitter.

To begin with I was concerned that once the product had been dry for a few hours, the glitter would begin to drop. There was a little drop down but only really when I accidentally rubbed my eye, nothing that would annoy or ruin the rest of my makeup.

You can wear these in a thin layer, coat the lid for a full on glitter look or lightly buff it over any existing shadow to liven up a day look for the evening.
They glide on like silk and reflect beautifully. Definitely an eye shadow to check out if you love glitter but are concerned about the texture or fall out

There are 8 shades available in total, 2 of which we have. Each eye shadow is £23.00 and available here.

Smashbox Lid Primers

We don’t often reach for an actual lid primer when creating a smoky eye, a cream eye shadow as a base is usually our weapon of choice.
We have however been testing out the new Smashbox base to see how it compares.
Smashbox have created 5 new shadow-setting primers that are actually tinted to suit your needs.

The 5 options available are a pure brilliant white, a smoke and a light, medium and dark. We have the light and the smoke to share with you.

Feels a bit like you’re applying Tipex to your eyelid but once blended out the vibrancy does dull down so don’t be alarmed. Apply three dots and using your ring finger or a fluff brush, gently buff out to leave a thin coating over the lid area.
The white instantly lightens and brightens the skin but it also massively electrifies the shade of eye shadow you are applying on top of.
You can of course use it under your more natural eye shadows however it works best when using it under bold colour. If you ever feel like you can’t achieve a strong pay off from blues and yellows then this is the primer to go for. It stops shadows from looking ashy and lifts the colour.

This provides a brown/black sludgy base, which will deepen the intensity of your smoky eye. By applying a thin layer it does all the hard work of a dark eye for you. You won’t have to apply layer upon layer of powder shadow to achieve the depth.
It works under any dark shadow and would also work with all skin tones.

We don’t have the skin-toned primers however these are good if you have an ashy skin tone eye or any discolouration on the lid. They neutralise the skin colour and give you a blank  and even canvas to work from.

The primers dry pretty fast so you need to blend out quickly. Once dry they provide a smooth velvety textured base to blend on top of. Powders grip nicely but are still able to blend out.
Don't use too much or you will find that it goes a little patchy. Longevity is improved and it doesn't cause any cracking or dryness.
Check these primers out if you have oily eye lids, like to create an intense or vibrant eye or if you just want to make your smokey eye a little easier.

Each primer is £18.00 and available now here.

Too Faced and Kat Von D Better together

Celebrating the beauty of friendship (and Valentines day) Kat Von D and Too Faced have collaborated to bring us an ultimate eye collection.

Firstly we love the packaging. They have created two halves of a heart each that connects via a magnetic spine. It’s something really unique (to us, anyway) looks beautiful and also means you can disconnect each side and carry them easily in your bag.

The Too Faced side includes 6 heart shaped eye shadows, in the Too Faced signature formula, in a mix of sparkle, metallic and matte finishes. These blend well and have a good amount of colour pay-off. The ice cream tones shades work well for a natural soft day look but also have a warm bronze and a blackened mauve to smoke it up for the evenings.

The Kat Von D side holds 6 slices of eye shadows, again using the typical formula of Kat Von D cosmetics which I wasn’t as impressed with. The matte shades were a little crumbly although they did layer well for a solid colour pay-off. The shades in the Kat Von D side are probably not as wearable as the Too Faced side although the beauty of having the two contrasting sides as that you have a good amount of choice.

The set also includes a full size Better than Sex mascara and a jet-black Tattoo liquid liner.

Inside the flap of each side is a printed love letter to each other. A little bit cringy but a sweet touch.

The information we received for this product states that it is £46.00 and available from 24th February however on the Debenhams site it states it at £57.00 and is actually available now. You can shop this here.

MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson and Jussie Smollet

There’s a new Viva Glam in town. Launching this February 16th. The latest collaboration is with Taraji P. Henson and Jussie Smollett.
Taraji. P. Henson is an American Academy nominated actress who has starred in films such as Hustle & Flow and The curious case of Benjamin Button. Jussie Smollet and Tarija P. Henson star opposite each other in TV drama Empire.

The lipstick in a matte fuchsia with a super fine pearl finish. It’s quite a blue toned fuchsia so perfect for enhancing the whiteness of your teeth!
The matching lipglass is a vinyl finish vivid pink shot with a shimmering lilac pigment.
For an intense vibrant lip layer them both together or wear separately for less intensity. It’s nice to have a similar punchy colour but with the choice of either a matte or high gloss finish.

The MAC AIDS fund was launched in 1994 and supports more than 96 countries that are working to combat the epidemic and support those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Purchasing one lipstick from the Viva Glam range will provide 1 pair of shoes for a child orphaned by AIDS, 14 HIV tests for pregnant mothers, 254 condoms to prevent HIV infection and much more. You can read more about the MAC AIDS fund here.

Available from this Thursday at all MAC locations.

Tyra Baby got matte

Matte liquid lips can always be a bit hit or miss. Often they apply well but over the course of the day they either go ‘bitty’ or they crack and wear off patchy.
We have been testing the new Baby got matte trio from Tyra.

The kit, which is presented in a soft matte laminate case (I’m all about these details!) opens up to reveal 3 liquid matte lipsticks. You don’t get to select the colour choices, there’s just the three set shades, however we’re hoping they will perhaps develop shade extensions with popularity.

They apply with a firm doe foot applicator. Would love a bit more of tapered flexible tip as it feels a bit like applying with a paddle but that’s just my opinion.
The firmness of the applicator means that the product applies quite thickly. I found I had to wipe the excess off to be able to apply with a little more precision.

The finish

It dries off instantly but the texture does allow for you to correct areas or layer up if needed. Once set it weirdly doesn’t feel dry. You can feel that you are wearing something on your lips and have the feeling like you may want to give them a lick, but it doesn’t feel uncomfortable whatsoever and even after licking, the colour remains.

They look stunning on the lips. Like a velvet cushion. The product grips round the contours of the lips and the natural lines within the lips are emphasised but I think this adds to the cushiony finish. It actually makes lips look a little plumped.
They even feel velvety to the touch too and lasted really well. No transfer onto a glass or whomever I kissed and rather than developing a patchy texture throughout the day it softly diffused and wore down.

If you want a comfortable matte lip which you can be sure won’t budge (especially with Valentines day coming up) in a selection of 2 really good neutral shades and a beautiful winter berry then check these out.

The Baby got matte kit is available here.

Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray

Continuous hair colouring, blow-drying, central heating and lack of TLC over the winter has left my hair feeling pretty crap. It’s just totally confused with greasy roots and super dry ends. I regularly use hair masks and overnight treatments which definitely do help however I’ve been on the hunt for a spritz in product which will give me a little added protection and care during styling.

For the last 3 weeks after every hair wash (twice a week usually) I have been misting the Living Proof restore perfecting spray through before drying with a hair dryer.

The packaging, as with all Living Proof products is particularly chic. It has a soft touch bottle in a soft lilac. I know that makes no difference to the product inside, but we all want our products to look nice on the shelf don’t we?

It’s basically a one-stop shop so great if you have zero time. It targets damaged hair through hydrating the cuticle, smoothes the hair and provides a good old moisture shot. It doesn’t feel heavy in the hair and once dry I couldn’t detect any weird chalky texture. It also smells nice, which is important when you try and avoid washing your hair for as long as possible!
It provides heat protection up to 400 degrees and also has a time-release formula, which continues to condition after use.

It’s not a cheap product unfortunately but you only need a couple of spritzes through the length of your hair and if you only wash your hair as often as me then it’s going to last you ages.

It’s available from this March at M&S, SpaceNK, John Lewis and Cult beauty. It’s #26.00 for a 236ml spray bottle.

MUFE Ultra HD Pressed powder

We reviewed MUFE HD Ultra foundation a while back but it’s still a firm favourite in our kit and one we recommend to lots of other makeup artists. This February MUFE are launching an Ultra HD pressed powder to sit alongside it.

It’s 4K compatible (read about what 4K means here) and mattes the skin whilst still providing a fresh luminous finish. Similar to the foundation it’s a great choice for those who have a combination to oily skin and like the matte feel but don’t necessarily want the matte dulling finish.

The powder has an extra fine texture which is talc free and has an anti-dullness micronized pigment which will never cause an ashy finish on a deeper skin tone. The powders within are silicone based so they will give you a silky, flawless finish which is still transparent enough to let your natural skin radiate through. They also feel amazingly smooth on the skin.

There a 3 shades available, although only a minimal amount of colour is visible on the skin.
01 is a white powder, pretty much transparent and is great for a very fair to light skin tone. 02 is a banana yellow and will liven up a medium to olive skin tone or those who suffer with greying under the eyes or with visible veins through the skin. 03 is a warm apricot and is perfect for a medium to deeper skin tone. It will naturally warm the skin tone and add vibrancy to a dulling winter skin.

MUFE recommend a dot and dust technique to be used so that the powder can crush into the fibres and be distributed evenly.
This is a great pro kit essential if you're looking for a good all rounder that is suitable for multiple ethnicity'.

It launches this month in Debenhams for £26.00 each.

The lip stylo are a large crayon style applicator with pointed nib. The texture is a beautiful buttery cream, which is infused with Shea butter, jojoba, mimosa and sunflower seed.
They have a balmy texture on the lips but in a very pigmented colour pay-off. They don’t have a greasy texture and wear nicely without separation on the lips.

They have a good colour combination to suit all skin tones..

Hourglass Lip stylo is available from today at Liberty, Net-a-Porter, SpaceNK and selected John Lewis and are £26.00 each.
