Art Deco Glam Vintage

Art Deco have launched their Christmas collection called Glam Vintage. Inspired by the Great Gatsby the packaging is embossed with retro vintage style patterns and the product containers are shaped in classic 20's style.

It's for Christmas so as you can imagine it's pretty sparkly. If glitter is not your thing this might not be of interest.
I've picked out my favourites from the collection..

Glam Vintage Blusher-£25.00

I really like the colours in this palette. A trio of pinks with a natural sheen finish (no glitter).
The colours come up lighter than they appear in the palette.
The lightest is a a baby pink with a gold shot through it, middle colour is a rosy pink with the same gold under tone and the third colour is a damson pink.
The colours give a radiant glow but are not shimmery or glittery.
I have the darkest colour on here and it comes up pretty natural. A great colour for a wintery, rosy tint.

Sometimes at Christmas it's nice to wear a darker, vampy lip and a nude eye. The eye still needs a little bit of something and Art Deco have a shimmer cream. This can be used on the eyes or as a highlighter.
The shimmer creams come in two colours of moonlight or brown and are £10.25 each.
Brown
Moonlight
These are obviously cream but they have a thin gloss/cream texture and don't have any sticky feel to them.
I used my finger to sweep them over my bare eyelid but you could use a synthetic firm brush. You could wear these on top of another cream base or push them on top of a powder eye shadow.
They give a really pretty delicate sparkle to the eye.
These do crease as most cream shadows do but if worn on it's own you can't see the creasing.

Moonlight Shimmer Cream
For the skin they have an illuminating fluid for £15.00. It has a soft gold tint that would suit a fair to medium skin tone as a highlighter.
Mix this in with your regular liquid foundation or apply using a small buffing brush to the high points of the face for a highlight.

You can get hold of these bits and more from Debenhams and they actually have a sale on at the moment too.

Laqa & Co Nail Polish Pen

LAQA & and Co. is a New York based cosmetic brand.

What we like about the brand is that is uses new young upcoming artists to design the packaging. It enables their art work to be viewed by more people and they also get a cut of the profit from each product purchased.

They have products based around convenience and have three product types in their range. A fat lip pencil, nail polish and a nail polish pen.
We took a look at the nail polish pen as we are often on the go so being able to quickly do our nails or touch up chips easily is a god send.

We had two colours to test out...
BMX Bandit is a fresh cherry red. The packaging is a snow flake style design.
The first time you use this pen you will need to pump the end a couple of times to get it going. I found the first time I pumped it too much came out so I had to wipe the excess on a tissue.

The brush makes it really easy to apply the colour. My nail polish often looks un-even around the cuticle however the brush makes it really easy to get it right to the cuticle with control and precision.
The brush holds a lot of product so I found I could get three finger nails covered without having to pump again.

After two coats the nails have an opaque covering with a vibrant gloss finish.
I also found this really quick drying.
Nail polish is a nice creamy texture so it doesn't go on patchy at all.

The second colour we had to try out was called Tiger Blood and is an apricot peach colour. The packaging says "Gosh you're pretty" as seen above.
I pressed the pump end down once but unfortunately it didn't pop back up for me to pump again.
My stuck nail pen!
I tried pushing tweezers, hair grips etc down the side of it to pop it back up again but it's well and truly jammed down. This is probably just a one off and fingers crossed yours won't do the same as this. Looks like it would be a lovely colour.

There are tons of other colours available on their website each with unique packaging so check them out. Each are £10.20 and are available now form http://www.laqaandco.co.uk

Noble Isle Lavenham Walk Collection

We are really lucky to live in a beautiful corner of the UK and being in the country there are some amazing historical towns nestled close by.

The town of Lavenham in Suffolk is close by to us and somewhere as children you would be dragged round looking at the buildings. As adults we tend to appreciate these kind of tourist spots a little more and if you get a chance you should definitely go especially this time of year.
The town is scattered with timber fronted medieval cottages that jut out at weird angles and has been the set for many famous films including Harry Potter and the deathly hallows.

Noble Isle is a range of luxury bathing products developed in 2011. The brand has taken it's inspiration from all corners of the British Isle incorporating scents from moorlands, orchards and coastal cliffs.
The two products we tested were inspired by Lavenham town.
Noble Isle say the Lavenham Walk collection is an unreservedly romantic fragrance, remindful of floaty green florals and mellow woods, enriched with extracts of willow bark and water lily, known for their soothing properties.

The scent is unisex and features extracts of willow bark, water lily sourced from Lavenham along with Ivy, watermelon and cedarwood.
It's really hard to describe a scent but it's very green and fresh in a musky way rather than a classic minty way!

The bath and shower gel is in a 250ml for £20 pump action container.  The squat bottle does make it seem like it's a hand wash rather than bath and shower gel but none the less a pleasant addition to any bathroom.
Foams well and smells lovely so it ticks the boxes for me.

The body cream in the collection comes in a thick card, logo embossed gift box with a black silk bow.

The actual cream is in a weighty glass jar and has a thick, whipped cream texture.
The jar is 170ml for £39.00 and is infused with shea butter, willow bark and water lily.
Cream is absorbed quickly but doesn't feel greasy. Left my skin nicely moisturised and delicately scented.

Noble Isle have other scents and products in their range so if you are a passionate patriot who likes all things British or you just like a bit of posh toiletries on your bathroom shelf then check these out.

Ciate Velvet Manicure

Get your nails ready for the party season by treating your nails to a velvet manicure.

There is something about red velvet that screams Christmas. I know a few friends who hate the texture of velvet. They say it puts their teeth on edge! This however looks like velvet but feels more like felt...if that makes it any easier for you velvet haters out there.

The kit holds a full size 13.5ml nail colour in the shade Boudoir, a tube of fine red velvet fibres and a soft short handled brush.

How to do it.....

Paint all nails with one coat of the nail colour. This will be your base colour.

Once first coat is dry add a second coat of colour to the first nail and then whilst this is still wet sprinkle the velvet fibres over the wet colour. It doesn't matter if it comes out in big clumps, just make sure the whole nail is heavily covered. Repeat this on all fingers.
Be warned this is quite messy so I held my nails over the plastic insert that came in the kit. That way you can pour fibre drop down back into the pot.

Your fingers will resemble a hand from a horror film but don't be alarmed it will all come together.

Once you have completed operation velvet fingers use the included brush to lightly sweep away the excess fibres..

It's hard to capture the velvet look on camera but the picture below gives you an idea.

Kits where you add extras bits into the nail polish usually look great for a day then I find that I catch it on my clothes or loose bits but because the velvet is flat it stays put. The fibres don't flake off everywhere and they feel soft and plush.

Another bonus is that it can be removed simply. Two wipes of my nail varnish remover and it was off.

Kit is £14.00 and it is available from

No7 Match Made Concealer

To sit in line with the No7 match made foundation service they have launched a new match made concealer.

The idea of the match made service is to measure skin tone and match it to one of the available 17 shades.
The No7 consultant will place their skin tone measuring device (It probably has a more technical name) onto the jaw line and will take two readings. Using ultra violet light the device assesses the colours in the facial skin and matches it to a concealer shade.

In theory this sounds great but the problem I believe is that peoples skin does not have one colour. The skin around the jaw and mouth can be much darker than the thin purple/blue toned skin around the eyes.
We vary rarely just use one tone of concealer because the face needs different shades to enhance different areas and make it appear more real than flat and mono toned.
We think therefore you may need to purchase a couple of colours to suit the different shades in your skin tone.
The No7 consultants will of course advise you on the different colour areas so I'm sure they would advise more than one colour anyway.
These do however come in 17 shades which is a huge array of colours considering a lot of brands don't cater for this variety of skin tones.

The concealer is a twist up cream style concealer. Cut at an angle which helps with a more precise application.

The texture is creamy but not so creamy that it feels like it will slip off. Blending it into the skin is easy and the finish is a velvet texture.
The coverage is really great. Colours in Mocha (top) and Deeply Beige.
How does it perform?...
 Does it cover?
Yes it covers really well. You can of course sheer it down by mixing with your foundation or moisturiser if you don't wear foundation.
The velvet finish actually makes it appear quite a flawless, full cover.
On blemishes this would definitely take the redness out of the blemish, on scars that are not raised it would also conceal it well. On pigmentation and un-even skin tone it would be perfect.

We think though if you have any form of natural texture to your skin i.e open pores, raised blemish, dry patches, fine lines/wrinkles then this would maybe not be the best option.
I found it settled into areas and almost highlighted areas of texture.
To be honest though most cream concealers used heavily will also draw attention to texture. Combat this by buffing the concealer in with a fluffy brush and use sparingly.

Colours are a mixture of yellow and pink bases and cater for a very porcelain skin through to a deep skin tone.
We have 10 shades to show you...

Don't forget there are 7 other shades also but we don't have them to swatch.

No7 Match Made concealers are available in now from Boots stores and online www.boots.com › and are £7.50 each.

Estee Lauder Zodiac Powder Compact

Each year since 1963 Estee Lauder have launched a collectable gift of refillable powder and solid perfume compacts.

This years (and I think they have previously done this theme) is zodiac signs.
We took a look at the pressed powder zodiac compacts. These 2.8g gold compacts are embossed with a design unique to that individual star sign. There are also tiny delicate sparkling gems set into each design. Approximate dimensions: 2-1/8" diameter x 1/2" thick.

Inside is a pressed translucent powder, slim powder puff and a mirror.
The powder is the Lucidity translucent powder that gives a natural radiance to the skin.
The powder will lightly matte skin down without providing any colour.
Would be suitable for porcelain to medium skin tones.
It would look to ashy on an olive through to darker skin tone.

The powder comes in a midnight blue, velvet pouch and sits in a golden box. Inside is a note describing the characteristics of that particular star sign.

Here are ours...

Sam is a Leo (only just!) born on the 23rd August.
Leo's are described inside as full of pride, passion and generosity. A natural born leader and extremely loyal to your loved ones.

Leo Compact

Nic is a Virgo born on the 20th September.
Virgo's are described inside as very meticulous and detail orientated. You strive for perfection, organisation and thoroughness.

Virgo Compact

We think these are so decadent and luxurious and as they are refillable it eases your conscience at spending £65.00 on each.
These are limited edition so get them while you still can.

Stocking Fillers

I always think back to my most favourite presents over the Christmas's past and it's always the little understated gift that I enjoy the most.
We have put together a few of our faves for a stocking filler...

Christmas is all about the novelty soap. It's something we all love so much we never end up using it and leave it to look pretty in our soap dish. Well life is short guys, use the soap!

Check out these cute ones below. Our favourite is the soap with tiny delicate butterflies. These are priced at £1.50 upwards from https://www.facebook.com/belindabubbles.5/app_139114646178872

You know it's the festive season here in the UK when you're in tears watching the John Lewis advert. This years advert is about a bear and a hare and this vintage inspired jewellery from Andrea Garland sits nicely with that theme.

It's a gold plated ring (Medium size) in the shape of a hare. His head then tilts back to reveal a clear Shea butter and almond oil lip balm. The lip balm is also refillable.
Priced at £36.00 from www.andreagarland.co.uk

Christmas is all about glitter so why not puff it all over your body, hair or wherever else you like. We adore this vintage style spray glitter powder from Kiko.

With one puff a fine spray of silvery pearl glitter is dispensed onto the face or body. It's scented with vanilla so smells pretty amazing also. Just be careful not to spray near the eyes as the glitter is super fine so may irritate. 14g bottle for £14.90 from http://www.kikocosmetics.co.uk

For party touch ups check out these blotting sheets from Mai Couture. Small booklet containing 60 leaves of blotting sheets. Not only do they blot but there are three types of coloured sheets. One will add a bronze colour to the skin, one is a highlighting sheet which you can rub over the high points of the face and the other type is a blush that you can press onto the apples of the cheeks for a tint of colour. These are available from http://www.beautybay.com/cosmetics/maicouture/glowgeoustrio/

Beats getting a satsuma in your stocking! What are your favourite stocking fillers?

Avon Pretty in Neutral Palette

Avon have some really nice pieces for Christmas this year. We really like their Pretty in Neutral palette for housing all you needs in one handy set.

The palette comes in a cardboard box printed with crystals and the palette itself is a clutch bag sized black plastic palette.

Open the mirrored lid and inside are 24 powder eye shadows in a mixture of neutral tones.
Colours are in a variety of textures from matte, metallic and frosted tones.
Looking at the colours it seems Avon have catered for all skin tones as each colour shade comes in a warm and cool tone variation.

Colours feel really silky soft to the touch. The colour pay off is medium but we found it really easy to build the colour up. These shadows do drop slightly so use a Shadow Shield or do your base makeup second to avoid ruining your foundation.

There are two sponge applicators and a dual ended blending brush. We prefer using a regular makeup brush but these are good to keep in the palette for emergency touch ups.

My arm simply isn't long enough to swatch all the colours but I have picked out some of our favourites to show you.

A selection of cool colours we loved. The first and third colour shown below were not too dissimilar to MAC Vex and Satin Taupe eye shadows.

These warm browns and black are great for a soft smokey eye.

They blend into each other nicely and this whole palette is actually not too big that you couldn't sneak it into your party handbag.

Now what I didn't realise initially was that there is a secret drawer underneath the eye shadows that slides out to reveal four blushers, two bronzers and four lip glosses!!
The draw on our palette was a little tricky to slide open so I thought maybe there was nothing underneath.

The blushers are all pink toned and are all very sheer. So sheer in colour that the second and fourth colour shown on my hand below could be used more as a highlighter.

Not very pigmented but would give a subtle flush to a paler skin.
The bronzers are both very orange based so would be more suited to an olive to dark skin tone. The first colour is very frosted also so I would just use this as a gold highlighter rather than a blusher.

The four glosses are super sheer and will softly tint the lips. The third colour is the most pigmented in a peach tone. The rest are pretty much transparent.
Two lip gloss applicators and a toy blusher brush are also included.

Designer Sky Box Collection

Boring Sky Box sat under the TV covered in dust?  Well no more, drum roll please......

Enter the new Limited edition Sky+ HD 2TB box collection with built in wifi.
It's basically your sky box but with a unique cover that has been designed by four different fashion icons. We think these are so much fun and certainly spice up the living room!

Each designer has incorporated inspiration from their favourite types of TV and films to create their unique designs.

Fashion designer Giles Deacon has been inspired by his love of cartoons and animation and has designed a Mini mouse themed cover. This was the set we went for also.

Not only does the box come with a unique cover but also the remote control, how cool is that!

Other designers involved are...

Kit Neale who is known for his amazing print designs. He designed a cover that reflects his passion for nature and his box shows bold aqua coloured lobsters.

Roland Mouret opted for a more macabre cover to reflect his favourite crime and horror shows.

Sophie Dahl designed a box that is inspired by old fashion illustrations and textile designs. Kind or reminiscent of her grandfathers (Roald Dahl) book illustrations by Quentin Blake we think.

If this is something you need to liven up your living room then you can register you interest by clicking on the link https://designerbox.sky.com/?DCMP=dmc-skycom:na_designer_boxes

Which one is your favourite?
