Sophia Loren is a Hollywood screen star that has graced the big screen since the 50's.
After fleeing her home town in Italy during WWII after she was hit by shrapnel. She and her family set up home in Naples. They remained there until after the war when they returned home to Pozzuoli to set up a family restaurant.
In the restaurant Sophia would serve the American GI's and after much flattery from them she decided at 14 to enter a beauty contest. She didn't win but this gave her the confidence to enroll into acting classes where she was selected as an extra in the film Quo Vadis.
Over the past 5 decades the has starred in many movies winning 21 different awards including the Academy award for her role in the movie Two Women.*
Her beauty and style was always a major attraction and as a lover of cosmetics she knew how to create a make-up look that both corrected and flattered her features.
Sophia has beautiful round eyes but to make them look more feline and almond shaped she would drag out the liner from under the eye meet it up with the top liner but leave a large triangular gap in the corner. This would make the eye appear longer and more narrow.
Her look is all about the eyes and there is only be subtle colour on the skin and lips.
This is a look she has become well known for and continues to use today.
The skin is kept natural with a subtle peach blush.
All of the emphasis is on the strong brow and that perfect dragged out liner, keep the lips nude and matte.
This look does work best on those with round eyes so the detail is a little lost on my narrow eyes.

ReplyDeleteThank you for such a helpful tutorial! I have really round, big eyes myself and find that a lot of looks get lost on them because they kind of block them out. It's really nice to see a look meant for us big eyed ladies <3

"Over the next 50 decades the has starred in many movies winning 21 different awards including the Academy award for her role in the movie Two Women."
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but unless she's over 500 years old, there is no way she has starred in movies for 50 decades. I think you meant to say 50 years or 5 decades.
Love this and as another lady with big eyes I definitely found the angelina jolie look helped to make my eyes look sexy and feline rather than wide-eyed and innocent. Not sure how my own skills will do with this one or how it will look during the day, but can't wait to try it out, thanks x
ReplyDeleteI love Sophia Loren and I love this look! <3

ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of 50's italian star who used iconic make up. I suggest you Claudia Cardinale, Monica Vitti, Alida Valli...

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely sultry look. Sophia Loren is the epitome of sultry. You did a great job recreating this look. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteOh...stunning,stunning makeup. Your eyes are pretty amazing ^,^
ReplyDeletegreat tutorial! Never realized how odd SL eye makeup was--always just thought it was just a heavy winged eyeliner look.
ReplyDeleteSophia is one of my all-time favorites. Your tutorials are always so informative. You are as bright as you are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, what is the purpose of the yellow concealer pencil and for black ladies, would it have the same effect?
ReplyDeleteIts modernizes her original makeup. Personally, although it may have worked for her, I think that the false lashes applied after the end of lash line combined the eyeliner for the bigger eye effect just don't look natural. You version, in the other hand, is way more wearable.
ReplyDeleteAlthough it may have worked for her, Personally I think that applying false lashes beyond the natural lash line, combined with the eyeliner for a bigger eye impression looks kinda fake.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the "updated" version that you posted, much more wearable.
Is great this Tutorial ! ...... I will use this makeup when I will graduated *_* Thanks
ReplyDeletehi sam

p.s I have bronze skin.
love u :)
The make up is beautiful and you look stunning! But I'd lik to make a clarification.
ReplyDeleteIn your opinion, Angelina Jolie has round eyes, Megan Fox has round eyes, even Sophia Loren- who's known as the "tiger eyed woman"- has round eyes.
That's not true, their eyes are slanted, I'm talking from a mathematical point of view, not a subjective one(I'm not comparing myself with them, like many people do when judge others).
Sophia Loren, in particular, had very feline eyes when she was young, and that's not for her make up, she had them NATURALLY! If you watch one of her most famous movies, "Running away", she was almost without make up and her eyes where not just gorgeous, beautiful, piercing, but also slanted. When she turned 40, her eyes looked more round, but when she was young and at the height of her fame, she had slanted eyes, that everybody in the world know.
You have beautuful eyes, they're particular because they're hooded, but hooded doesn't mean slanted or normal... Most of asian have hooded eyes for example, but not all of them.
I make this clarification because I think that hasty judgments are counterproductive in Aesthetics; I study aesthetic for years now(I talk about this in my blog), and the thing I have understood is that too many people judge in a wrong way, so that a lot of people can't find what really suits.
Hope you take it as a constructive comment.
Bye bye :)
