Guide to Summer Tinted Moisturisers

For the summer months tinted moisturisers give the skin a welcome break from heavier foundations used through the winter.
Depending on your skin type there are some great options available.
Generally, these products are lightweight and will contain an SPF. They can be applied using your fingers but for a more polished look apply with a stippling or buffing brush. Using a brush will also help to build the coverage in the areas you need it.
Here are some of our favourites:-

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser SPF30 (£27.00) is great for a combination/oily skin.
This is oil free, paraben free and derived form natural ingredients that still hydrate the skin.
Great for all ages and helps to reduce appearance of pigmentation this provides a light coverage and gives a radiant finish.

Becca Luminous Skin Colour SPF25 (£35.00) is great for people who want the feel and look of a tinted moisturiser but who require a tiny bit more coverage.
Containing anti-oxidants and antiseptic ingredients this is great for problematic skin types.

Estee Lauder Day Wear SPF15 (£34.00) is amazing for people who don’t have time to fuss over their base. It goes on as a mint coloured cream but through the action of massaging it in it transforms into a subtle tint. Only downside is that it's only available in one shade so if you are very pale you may find this one a little too dark for you.
Great for a dull or dry skin as its packed with anti-oxidant ingredients which help reduce the first signs of aging, dullness and drying effects of everyday life.

Laura Mercier's range of tinted moisturisers each have an SPF 20 and all cost £33.00. They offer an alternative for dry, dull and oily skins.
My favourite is the regular tinted moisturiser, available in 9 colours, it
provides a medium coverage which is easily buildable to give an excellent coverage.
The staying power is also incredible. Huge fan here.

  1. I've heard so many good things about the Laura Mercier range that I may have to treat myself. I love tinted moisturisers for the summer due to their light coverage but I also like the idea that the LM ones are buildable x

    1. I used to use Bobbi Brown foundation after Sali Hughes recommended it, but it completely DESTROYED my skin. I am 22 and in my teens never suffered from acne but Bobbi Brown left me broken out constantly with deep, cystic spots... The problem was I knew the make up was causing it, but was stuck in a cycle of applying more and more of it to keep the acne "covered". It also made my skin slimy to the touch and my face would feel almost suffocated...

Finally I forced myself to stop using it and very reluctantly went make up free for a couple of weeks. I felt self-conscious and unhappy but the acne cleared up and I tried Laura Mercier's tinted moisturiser.

At first I was sceptical that a tinted moisturiser would give me the coverage I wanted but I couldn't be happier with the result - rather than paint over myself completely it enhances and "perfects" my skin to give my face a really natural radiance. Also if I'm having a bit of a flushed or a grey day it layers so easily I can give myself as much or as little coverage as I want. It sits so comfortably on the skin and isn't shiny or sticky so there is no need to apply powder over the top (another problem I had with Bobbi Brown). I feel like this make up is the best thing I've ever done for my skin.

TL;DR : I HEARTILY RECOMMEND LAURA MERCIER TINTED MOISTURISER ^__^

    2. that is SO curious: I get along SUPER well with Bobbi Brown's products :) and it was precisely the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (the regular one) the ONLY tinted moisturizer I have tried so far that I disliked!
Skin is a very PERSONAL matter, right? :) There is NO WAY we can tell how we are going to react to a prdct unless we try it :) xx

    3. that's right "beingraquelbeauty"! Skin is a very very personal thing. everyone should use what works best for him! I tried a lot lately, because youtube and blogs led me to buy more&more things and i've totally neglected the products which works best for me, so i got lots of break outs lately.
use what's best for YOU and not what's best for the others!!

  9. I normally use this type of tinted moisturisers in summer to have a more even skin without having a strong foundation!! I never tried the Nars one! it looks amazing! thanks for sharing!

  10. 2 favorites: Liz Earle tinted moisturiser - feels very nice on dry skin. Dior hydra life tint - also good on dry skin however the lightest colour is quite dark.

  11. I have both the Nars and Laura Mercier. They both are great, I even tried some contouring today using both as the Mercier is a little darker than my skin, and the Nars matches my skin. Perfect amount of coverage without feeling it on your skin.

  12. Have you tried the new Embryolisse BB cream? I'm so curious about it. I may try this one or Laura Nervier tinted moisturizer.

  17. I LOVE tinted moisturizers, own a LOT and have tried... well... way too many ;) I didn't like the Laura Mercier, though... I didn't find a way to make it work: it seemed to "sit" on my skin... leave it greasy (I used the regular one, because I have normal skin, no problems)...
I don't get the hype...! Or maybe I should've tried the oil-free version... But I get along SUPER fine w/ Bobbi Brown's one (NOT the oil-free) and Liz Earls' :)
My favourite of all, though, is from Paula's Choice: I find my self reachig for it all the time: especially when I'm in a hurry!
    xx raquel :)

  18. I have not tried any of these products but in summer I use textures of this type, light and heavy than in the skin.
Thank you for your recommendations, Greetings.

  23. i'm currently using guerlain tinted moisturizer in brunette.i've been enjoying it since early last year. i've stopped using my mac foundations because it just felt too heavy and broke me out a little.

  24. If anybody's thinking about purchasing the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser, it's totally worth the money, I'm in love with it because it gives a sheer glowy finish, and lasts for hours! To me it's a perfect product!!! I'll have to try the other ones though, just so can compare...

  25. Unfortunately I can never find a tinted moisturiser that works for me. They don't seem to sit right on my skin, yet when I mix a bit of liquid foundation with my day cream It creates a great affect. Not to heavy but it give me a lovely dewy finish :)

  26. I love bb creams but I have just tried the korean more established and well known products, I have rosacea so I can't really afford to try new ones that sort of emulate the traditional products.
I went into a Clinique counter to see their new bb cream as most of their products are suitable for sensitive/problematic skin. I asked for the main components of the cream, and the lady just gave me the box for me to read them. The Clinique bb cream has Polyquaternium! A highly allergenic compound that tends to be common in cheap hair products. I am incredibly allergic to it so I can't imagine what that cream from hell would have caused to my extra sensitive skin with rosacea. I used to love some of Clinique's products but I am never ever going to purchase anything there again. It is a complete joke to appear as a dermatological brand and have highly allergenic components in their products!

    1. This is quite Interesting! For some reason my face is deathly allergic to anything Clinique and I always get weird looks from people when I tell them this since they're products are supposed to be for sensitive skin. Nice to know I'm not crazy!

  28. I've recently purchased the Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser and waiting for it to arrive on my doorstep.

I've taken a bit of a gamble as I'm really pale with pink undertones and to date, have not found LM to be good for my colouring - I would love to try the NARS tinted moisturiser and was all set to purchase 'Finland' but it sold out :(

This seems to be the biggest problem with tinted moisturisers is that they don't come in a huge range of shades and tend to have a yellow undertone.

  33. I've used the Laura Mercier for several months and yes, I love texture, colour etc., but I find that the coverage is very light and not buildable at all...I've used the normal version too.
